5 Kirkland Products Every Costco Member Should Try in October

Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand has hundreds of products, so it’s probably a big ask to try them all. But it’s worth trying what makes sense, since relying on Kirkland Signature is a big part of how members save money at Costco.

This time of year brings seasonal changes to the weather as well as arguably the second-most popular holiday of the year.

With all this in mind, consider these Kirkland Signature picks on your Costco trips this month.

1. Kirkland Signature merino wool blend socks

Glory to my autumn-loving fellows, for it is our time. The leaves are a-fallin’, folks, so it’s time to break out the warm socks and fuzzy blankets.

My favorite material for socks is merino wool, which is not only great for temperature regulating and moisture wicking, but is thought to be antimicrobial, helping to keep odors down.

Unfortunately, merino makes for some expensive socks, so three cheers for Costco and its Kirkland Signature merino wool-blended socks. The thinner women’s socks have a higher merino count, but they cost more per sock, while the men’s socks have more nylon, but extra cushion and they cost less per pair.

2. Kirkland Signature Double-sided Gift Wrap

While I haven’t used it myself, a lot of folks on social media are huge fans of this gift wrap, and it’s just hitting shelves again for the season. You get two rolls of sturdy paper (your choice of foil in silver/gold or craft with green/red designs) with different patterns on each side.

The rolls each hold 270 square feet of wrapping paper, so you get 540 square feet of wrapping paper in total. That’s enough to wrap roughly 206 shirt gift boxes, 32 average doors, or 1 large SUV.

FYI: If you haven’t begun already, October is still a good time to start putting money aside for your holiday shopping. You can open a new high-yield savings account and earn more than 4% APY to help that money grow in time to pay for presents.

3. Kirkland Signature Organic Modena Balsamic Vinegar

Autumn’s harvest includes apples, pears, squash, and brussels sprouts — all foods that pair marvelously with a good balsamic. (Roasted brussels sprouts with a balsamic glaze changed my entire view of the vegetable!)

Kirkland’s organic balsamic vinegar is well-rated for its quality, and it comes in large enough bottles you don’t have to feel guilty reducing it into a delicious glaze. You pay a bit more for that quality compared to non-organic grocery store generics, but it’s still cheaper than buying organic at the grocery store:

Cost Per Ounce Cost Per Liter (33.8 oz)
Kirkland organic balsamic $0.42 $14.20
Brand name organic $0.46 $15.58
Grocery store brand $0.25 $8.58

I’m happy to pay extra for better quality balsamic, because I can definitely taste the difference. We all have our preferences, though, so if it’s not worth the extra cost here, do what works for your own budget.

4. Kirkland Signature Funhouse Treats/All Chocolate

Do not be the person rushing to Walmart day-of and demanding that employees magically find you enough Halloween candy to satiate the little munchkins about to descend upon you. It’s not their fault you didn’t buy your 10 pounds of sugar-encrusted sugar while you were at Costco.

Kirkland Signature has two very solid assortments, one with all chocolates and one with various candies, all popular brands (think M&Ms, Snickers, Twizzlers, Sour Patch Kids, etc.), and in large enough bags to keep the citizens from rioting.

I couldn’t find a piece count listed anywhere, but going off the weight of the bags — 5.6 pounds for the chocolate and 5.75 pounds for the candies — I’d give it an estimate of around 325 pieces per bag (based on similar-weight assortments from other brands).

5. Kirkland Signature Liquid Laundry Detergent

While I probably do a little extra laundry in October when the sweaters come out of storage, this pick is more about sales than seasons.

Specifically, through Oct. 10, 2024, you can get $3.60 off both versions of the Kirkland liquid laundry soap. After the deal, that makes this soap $15.73 a bottle at my local store, which comes out to about $0.08 per fluid ounce.

If I bought Tide from the same Costco, I’d be paying $0.16 per fluid ounce, which is twice as much as the sale price for Kirkland. (That said, Kirkland Signature liquid laundry soap is a good deal without the sale, too; the regular cost is only $0.10 per fluid ounce.)

Don’t forget to check out the seasonal treats

One fun thing about Costco is there are an array of different foods, both sweets and savories, that come out for only a short time each year. While they’re not all going to be winners for everyone, they’re very often worth checking out.

No matter what time of year you head in, make sure to take along your best Costco rewards card. Even if you don’t end up liking the new Kirkland products you try, at least you’ll have earned rewards on them!
